Engagement Alliance - Breightmet and Little Lever Snapshot

As part of the ongoing work with the Bolton Engagement Alliance, this report focuses on understanding views on existing services in the local area, explore what services are needed and issues with distance and willingness to travel to services.

Summary:

A total of 31 people were spoken to across 2 locations and a total of 40 comments were collected.  The key themes identifies were local services, neighbourhoods and access and travel.  The key findings are as follows:

  • In general people felt they had access to the GP and pharmacy services in the local area.
  • Residents from Little Lever felt there were a number of gaps in their local service provision. This includes services for young people, advice services, community groups, community police presence and a bank.
  • The health centre was seen as dated and a lack of NHS dentists was highlighted.
  • People in both Breightmet and Little Lever expressed concerns over local transport.  The main issue being the transport between the two areas and also within them.

Conclusions:

There was quite a mix of comments for this piece of engagement.  The main issues were around the possibility of expanding some local healthcare services so that residents did not have to travel so far, a need to improve support services and a lack of public transport; buses.

Recommendations were made to the primary care planning group, NHS England and the social prescribing project.
