Who Are You Seeing Today

This project aimed to help inform how the primary care workforce chould be structured and the future use of technologies to help support communication. We asked people for thier views on their preferred methods of communication and why.

Summary:

8 semi structure interviews took place with patients who were waiting for their appointments.  The key findings are as follows:

  • The choice of practioners at this surgery was GP or nurse.  Of the 8 individuals we spoke to half were seeing the nurse and half the GP.
  • All individuals felt they were booked in to see the right clinician.
  • Patients expressed as preference to see the same GP mainly for continuity of care especially for those with long term conditions however only 1 individual was seeing their 1st choice GP.
  • Most of the female patients expressed how at times they would prefer to see a female GP especially if related to a more personal female problem such as periods and cysts.
  • In general the patients felt happy with the service.

Conclusion:

Patients felt the care received was of a good standard and were happy with the clinicians they has been booked in to see.

There was some evidence of a lack of continuity in patients not being able to see their named GP due to waiting times however overall they were pleased with the care they received and felt listened to.
