We are still here for you
1. Transferring the work of Healthwatch England to the Department of Health and Social Care, and
2. Moving responsibility for local Healthwatch services to the NHS and local authorities.

At this stage, no changes to the law have been made, and these proposals are not yet in effect. That means:
Healthwatch Bolton remains here for you — open, active, and fully independent.
We are still:
- Listening to your experiences of health and social care services,
- Speaking up on your behalf to those in power to help improve care, and
- Supporting you with advice and information to help you access the care you need.
We are deeply concerned that these proposed changes risk removing the independent voice of patients and service users — something we believe is vital for improving services and ensuring public accountability.
While the proposals include some welcome ambitions, they could undermine the trusted, independent role we play locally. The changes risk silencing the voices of those who most need to be heard — particularly people who already face barriers in accessing care or being listened to.
Have Your Say
If you share our concerns, you can write to your local MP to ask that they protect the independent role of Healthwatch.
You can:
- Share how Healthwatch has helped you, or
- Explain why you believe an independent patient voice matters in shaping services.
Your voice makes a difference — and now is the time to use it.
We will continue to keep our community informed as more details emerge. Thank you for your continued trust and support.
We’re still here to make sure your voice is heard.
