From this week parents will be able to bring their 12-15-year-old children to walk-in vaccination clinics at Horwich RMI and Hootons pharmacy and from 8th November at the Market Place.
The move is an expansion of the existing COVID-19 vaccination programme, providing parents with an extra, convenient option, as the biggest and fastest vaccination programme in health history continues to protect people against the virus.
This offer makes it possible for those children aged 12 to 15 who have not yet had the opportunity to be vaccinated at school – including those who are home educated – to visit a walk-in clinic as well as book an appointment online or via 119.
Exactly the same principles for consent, and exactly the same safeguards will be in place as for in school vaccinations. The extra flexibility and capacity will enable faster roll-out to this group at a time when the rate of COVID-19 infection in secondary aged children continues to be high.
Please note at this time only these 3 sites in Bolton are ‘signed off’ by GM to vaccinate healthy 12-15 year olds.
Since Saturday 23 October, 12-15 year olds have also been able to book a vaccination outside of school if they prefer, using the National Booking Service. To make an appointment, they need simply to visit www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or call 119.
There is mounting evidence that 2 doses of vaccine in our most vulnerable starts to wane from 6 months so its imperative that these people get boosted to continue protection. This is to ensure they have adequate response and protection.
There have been some challenges to availability of national booking system online appointments. The regional team are working to try and improve this
service but its worth noting that new appointments come online regularly each day so please recheck at a different point if none immediately available. If anyone is struggling they can call the CCG direct on the numbers below.
Please note that currently JCVI recommends only one dose for children 12-17 and 9mths. According to the media this may be about to change but sites have not been given guidance as yet to offer a second dose unless the child has underlying health conditions.
Anyone having trouble accessing a 1st/2nd/3rd or booster dose of the COVID vaccine please call NHS Bolton CCG for help:
